I too found the quick lace far easier to lock in and leave than in the Sense Ride and Sense Ultra. At least until the mile 34 drop. Our site is powered by industry leading standards for your protection. The internal Sensi Fit overlays are tied into the lace loops and backed on the foot side by a freefloating black internal flap extending down about an inch. And they slip on easier. Might you mean the forefoot is quite stiff? I was worried at first that the thick padding in the heel and tongue would absorb water and not dry out, but my initial feelings have proven to be unfounded.

In part due to the thicker tongue and side wing padding allowing me to cinch it tighter than I would have been able to with the other two at the start and let it stretch a bit as the run progressed to a good comfortable fit. But the speedcross is soooo stiff. The Elevate has 2mm more heel stack and the same spec forefoot stack. Fit is true to size, forefoot room is enough for splay and swell without feeling insecure or sloppy in technical terrain. The firm ride essentially goes unnoticed in mixed terrain, but was somewhat evident at faster paces on hard, smooth surfaces i. I usually love vibram soles, but those shoes slip a bit to much. They sounds like they could be a decent alternative to the Sense Ride, since you seem to feel the toe box is possibly wider than the Ride? My midfoot is on the wider side, and this shoe is pretty narrow.

Doesn't do a good job of dispersing lace pressure and traps moisture. The Speedspike is waterproof as well and fit is at least as good, if not better than the Elevate, as I feel it is a bit more secure. I love that they have created a shoe that provides a full coverage protection zone.

Overall, the positives are attractive — great traction, protective uppers, aggressive outsoles, and a really killer-looking design. Would you be willing to compare the fit of these two shoes in the heel, midfoot, and toebox? Hi Zak, I did not run the Sense Pro 2 and not sure if Jeff did either. I have even actually even enjoyed running roads in them, I struggled a bit on steep uphills while running them, the kind of stuff where fast walking is also a choice as there is less front flex than its cousins or shoes with a very pronounced but less protected very front of the shoe such as the La Sportiva Mutant. Don't be fooled by its hiker vibe this is one heck of a versatile trail runner. For deeper snow and harsher conditions, I would pick the Uragano out of the 3 given the built in gaiter and deeper tread sharing outsole with Tempesta. Sam, Editor Sam, Editor Thanks for reading Road Trail Run! I will try my Superfeets instead. But on non-rugged or more flat terrain, its like running in wooden clogs.

Though the lugs are slightly rounded compared to new with slightly more wear in the toe, I have not found traction to be compromised in the least. Both have slim tread depth. So badly wanted the salomon to work out. Fit is true to size, heel hold is excellent, forefoot room is enough for splay and swell without feeling insecure or sloppy in technical terrain. These lugs have large surface areas to provide traction on smooth surfaces like granite slabs.

The team is spread across the country, so we are able to test under a variety of different conditions, terrains, and types of trail, from gently-rolling fire roads to highly technical mountain singletrack. The midsole and outsole combine to make a comfortable, protective, and dynamic trail shredder that handles everything I throw at them.

I found the forefoot more cushioned on all surfaces if firmer with the heel firmer than in the other two but still cushioned. I think a half size up in either shoe would suit your foot well, as both are wider than the D width Speedcross. I'm really curious about how these differ from the Sense Pro 2? Salomon is using Premium Wet Traction Contagrip and this same or similar outsole pattern on almost every one of their new shoes. Aside from the unmatched grip, the shoe also delivers durability, especially in high-wear areas. When I consider the muddy and root-filled terrain at the BigHorn 50.

. My Elevates broke in nicely, and now all of the midfoot discomfort is gone. It is effective in the mix in place of the internal Endo-Fit found in most Salomon performance shoes with no pressure around the arch as I sometimes felt in Endo Fit shoes. Most importantly for you though, the toebox has a little more width and volume. Continue Reading Over the course of a few weeks, our wear-test team does multiple runs in each pair of shoes they test. As if the supreme traction on such a wide variety of conditions and surfaces were not enough, durability is also impressive. I would say the Elevate has better all around versatility and traction on a wider variety of surfaces than the Tempesta. The Peregrine 8 is also quite firm and for me not nearly as much fun to run. And have you tried the Salomon Outpath? Reminds me of the old wings pro — my favourite shoe — but with less structure. The vertical strip with the shoe name sits on top of the tongue and is attached to the tongue near the blue tab the bottom of the lace garage.

I like a pretty narrow shoe in the heel and the midfoot I just love the feeling of a really snug fit in the midfoot especially while moving over uneven terrain but with a little more space in the toebox. He has been top 5 Masters, top 25 overall, at the Pike's Peak Marathon several times, finishing 2d Masters in 2015. Slow old me, particularly on downhills I tend to lean towards stability vs. I know you can run in it but the direction that Salomon is taking is a little confusing to me. I enjoy the end where you compare all of the shoes in a short comparison. I wear a size 12. The fit is just about perfect in the heel for my foot, and has never caused any hot spots or rubbing.
